Warrant appointing the Empress Elisabeth Amalie of Austria to be a Dame Grand Cross of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, accompanied by a covering letter from Fra' Giovanni Battista Ceschi requesting the honour of the acceptance of the insignia of the Order.

The warrant is written in Latin, on a large folio sheet, decorated with ornamental border of floral and arabesque motifs, with the Maltese cross of the Order in the centre of the upper border. The document is dated Rome 17 May 1873 at the end, and has an official leaden seal attached to it. It is endorsed on the back as duly registered among the Acts of the Legation of the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem in Vienna, on the 23rd of May 1873 and authenticated by the signature of “Chev. de Langere, Conseiller de Légation and Chargé d'Affaires” and by a stamp of the Order ;
With an accompanying letter in French, dated Rome 17 May 1873, informing the Empress that her name has been placed at the head of "Les Dames de la Grande Croix" of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem and requesting the honour of the acceptance of the insignia of the Order. Signed by "Fra Jean Baptiste Ceschi Santa Croce Lieutenant du Gr. Maître de l'Ordre Souv. de St. Jean de Jérusalem".
