Summary An account of the author's travels to the near East, dedicated to François III de La Rochefoucauld (1521-1572), with the coat of arms of the Rochefoucauld family at the back of the title page (Burelé d'argent et d'azur, à trois chevrons de gueules brochant sur le tout, le premier écimé). Contains an ode from Francois de Belleforest to the author inserted before the preface.

Identifying markings Museum of the Order of St. John copy has several bookseller notes on first flyleaf (verso): "First edition" [pencil], "Livre très amusant à cause de l'ignorance profonde de l'auteur, véritable Capucin" [ink], "The portrait of the author is before the 'privilège' of the King at the end of the book". Also accompanied by a manuscript note in pencil. - Museum of the Order of St. John copy fire-damaged on pages 198 to 202, with part of the text on pages 201 and 202 replaced by a manuscript copy of the text glued to p. 202 (in two different hands).
